Foundations

Programming foundations

Learn one language deeply. Python is the best first language.

Beginner4–8 weeks

Pick Python and learn it properly. It is readable, versatile, and the lingua franca of AI and data, and it builds the mental models you reuse in every other language.

  • Take Harvard CS50x for a rigorous, free CS foundation (C → Python → SQL).
  • Use roadmap.sh as your map of what to learn and in what order.
  • Don't just watch, type every line yourself.

You unlock: You can read and write real programs, reason about logic and data, and learn any new language faster.

Build end-to-end projects

Tutorials create the illusion of competence. Shipping creates the real thing.

Beginnerongoing (1 project/week)

The fastest way to actually learn is to build complete projects from a blank file to a working app.

  • Follow The Odin Project or Full Stack Open for a project-first full-stack curriculum.
  • Pull ideas from the project-based-learning repo and ship one a week.
  • Write tests, review, and debug your own code, AI can generate code, but engineers are paid to make it correct, safe, and production-ready.
  • Push everything to GitHub, your repo history is your real résumé.

You unlock: A public portfolio of projects you can explain line by line, proof you can build, not just follow along.

Engineer like a pro

Version control & collaboration

Real engineering is a team sport run on Git.

Beginner1 week

Every professional codebase lives in Git. Learn branches, pull requests, code review, and conflict resolution before you need them under pressure.

  • Work through the Pro Git book (free).
  • Practice the daily loop on GitHub: branch → commit → PR → review → merge.

You unlock: You collaborate like a professional: clean commits, reviewable PRs, and no fear of merge conflicts.

Ship to production (cloud & infra)

Code on your laptop is easy. Running it reliably for real users is the job.

Intermediate4–6 weeks

Knowing how code reaches and survives production is what separates a feature coder from an engineer.

  • Learn Docker (containerise), then Kubernetes (run at scale), then Terraform (infrastructure as code).
  • Use the official Kubernetes tutorials and practise free on KillerCoda.
  • Deploy one of your own projects to a real cloud.

You unlock: You can containerise an app, deploy it to the cloud, and keep it running, the core of platform engineering.

Stratiflux · This is exactly what the Platform Engineering track puts you through, on real Hetzner sandboxes, machine-verified week by week.

System design

How large-scale systems are actually architected.

Intermediate3–5 weeks

Once you can build and ship, learn to architect: load balancing, caching, databases, queues, and distributed systems.

You unlock: You can whiteboard a scalable architecture and defend the trade-offs, the senior-engineer conversation.

Systems & low-level programming

The most underrated edge in 2026, and where the frontier-lab Rust/C++ jobs live.

Advanced4–8 weeks

AI can generate application code; the durable, high-paid edge is below the framework, understanding how the machine actually runs your program. This is the skill set frontier labs and GPU clouds explicitly hire for ("not a general Python backend role, Rust or C++").

  • Learn the fundamentals: processes & threads, memory management, networking, and how the OS schedules work.
  • C++ is still everywhere in performance-critical systems; Rust is what high-impact infra teams build with now (AWS Firecracker, Cloudflare Pingora, inference runtimes, NPU/GPU stacks). Rust job postings have more than doubled in two years.
  • Don't just read, write a small allocator, a thread pool, and a TCP server.

You unlock: You understand what happens beneath the framework, memory, threads, syscalls, the network, and can write systems code in Rust, the skill frontier-lab infra teams hire for.

Stratiflux · This is the mental model behind the GPU runtime, CUDA, and inference-serving work in the AI Infrastructure track, low-level performance is the whole game there.

AI-native (2026)

Become AI-native

In 2026, understanding AI is no longer optional for any engineer.

Intermediate2–3 weeks

AI lowered the floor (anyone can generate code) and raised the ceiling (architecture, security, and judgement matter more). Learn the concepts and learn to wield AI as a power tool.

You unlock: You understand how models work and use AI to multiply your output without outsourcing your judgement.

Land the job

Data structures & algorithms

The interview gauntlet. Pattern recognition beats memorisation.

Advancedongoing (1–2/day)

Interviews still test DSA. Build intuition first, then drill patterns.

You unlock: You recognise problem patterns on sight and can solve and explain them under interview pressure.

The 2026 job hunt

Mass-applying is dead. High-signal beats high-volume.

Intermediateongoing

Firing résumés into ATS portals is a waste of time in 2026. Go direct and lead with proof.

  • Find founders and hiring engineers and send personalised, high-signal DMs on LinkedIn and X.
  • Lead with your GitHub and shipped projects, not a CV.
  • Contribute to open source to get seen by maintainers.

You unlock: You generate real interviews through direct relationships and demonstrable work.

Stratiflux · Stratiflux flips this entirely: companies hire our verified graduates directly. Selection is the gate, not money, seats are free or near-free for selected talent.
